The popular Twitter adage "retweets are not endorsements" could soon be federal law if a judge finds merit in MSNBC host Joy Ann-Reid's bid to end a social media-based defamation lawsuit against her.

Reid cited California's anti-SLAPP law and the Communications Decency Act as justification for dismissing plaintiff Rosalyn La Liberte's lawsuit in a motion filed Wednesday in the Eastern District of New York.
