Former FBI agent given 6 years for taking bribes from attorney

“I love this country so much that I’m ashamed to be here today in front of you and in front of my family in these cuffs,” Babak Broumand addressed the judge through tears on Monday. He asked U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner to consider his decades of service in the FBI before pronouncing his sentence.

A federal judge imposed a six-year prison sentence on a former FBI agent convicted last year of taking bribes from a Beverly Hills attorney. The attorney, who pleaded guilty to five felonies related to credit card fraud in 2020, was the government’s key witness during the trial against the agent.
