Sacramento diocese faces bankruptcy after sex abuse claims
“Sacramento has tremendous cash flows in the form of weekly and monthly donations, all of it tax-free. It owns hundreds, if not thousands, of parcels of property,” said the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests in a statement in response to Bishop Jaime Soto’s letter.




The Roman Catholic Bishop of Sacramento has said the diocese could face bankruptcy because of a rush of new sexual abuse civil claims.
The diocese has also stated that parish assets like schools and buildings would be “largely unaffected.” But attorneys suing the diocese say this claim is a “corporate shell game” they will test in bankruptcy court.
