Apartment owners sue LA over new renter protection ordinances

Ordinance No. 187763 requires landlords to wait to start eviction proceedings against a tenant until the unpaid rent exceeds one month of fair market rent for the Los Angeles metro area. Ordinance No. 187764 makes landlords assist with relocation fees if rent is increased past a specified threshold and the tenant then has to move out.

A rental housing organization sued the City of Los Angeles, challenging the legality of recently-enacted ordinances meant to limit landlords’ ability to evict tenants who haven’t paid their rent.
