Online retailer's recording of chat feature doesn't violate privacy act, U.S. judge rules

Plaintiff Jose Licea alleged Cinmar violated California Penal Code Section 631 when it paid a third party to “eavesdrop” on and archive the chat transcripts.

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit that alleged the online chat feature of a storefront website violated the California Invasion of Privacy Act by “recording” their written conversations.
