Calvary Chapel’s federal suit over COVID orders paused for state case
County Counsel James R. Williams asked the court to abide by the Younger abstention doctrine which he said articulates, “‘a strong federal policy against federal-court interference with pending state judicial proceedings absent extraordinary circumstances,’ so as to protect the ‘comity’ between state and federal courts that includes a ‘proper respect for state functions.’”
