County seeks judgment in COVID case against church
Counsel for Calvary Chapel told Superior Court Judge Evette D. Pennypacker that the county violated the First and 14th amendments by levying $2.87 million in fines against the church violating the mask mandate and failing to sign a completed social distancing protocol form.




The litigation war over pandemic related restrictions and penalties between Calvary Chapel and the local governments throughout the state saw its latest battle Tuesday.
Santa Clara County asked a court judge to grant summary adjudication in its lawsuit against the church’s San Jose congregation for allegedly violating orders against gathering for religious services at the height of the pandemic.
