State Bar wants approval for remote judicial evaluations

State Bar Rules 7.52 and 7.60 require in-person judicial candidate interviews except for unusual circumstances. That exception was invoked when the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, and interviews have been conducted over Zoom since then, a bar spokesman said Monday.

The State Bar Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation is proposing a rule change to enshrine its practice of remote candidate interviews that have been occurring for the past three years.
