An absurd stalemate on immigration reform
In the summer of 2019, I wanted to go beyond fiction and write a play where – through actors – I could more fully humanize the plight of undocumented immigrants and the harm caused to them by ruthless anti-immigrant policies.

He is also a playwright, poet, critic, and the author of 12 books, including his latest novel, Chicano Frankenstein (Forest Avenue Press), and My Chicano Heart: New and Collected Stories of Love and Other Transgressions (University of Nevada Press).
In January 2017, I was inspired to write a fictional response to Donald Trump's election in the form of a dystopian short story where the President had finally constructed his long-promised wall at our southern border. His gaudy, gold-embellished structure included an adjoining detention center specifically designed to separate undocumented parents from their U.S.-born children...
