New Assembly Judiciary chair commits to funding courts

Assemblyman Ash Kalra was a deputy public defender in Santa Clara County for 11 years.

Assemblyman Ash Kalra has served on the Assembly Judiciary Committee for seven years. He hopes to lead it for several more.

"If I continue to get re-elected, 2028 would be my last year," the Democrat from San Jose said in a phone interview Friday. "I think it would be amazing to be at the helm of the Judiciary Committee for the next five years."
