Former LA County sheriff finally testifies about deputy gangs
After years of resisting subpoenas and denying the existence of sheriff gangs, Alex Villanueva appeared before the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission, which was set up by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to look into the existence of gangs and cliques among the nearly 10,000 sworn members of the sheriff’s department.





A feisty former Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva testified Friday that deputy sheriffs who were members of gangs had been fired, resisting assertions the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had turned a blind eye to such behavior.
“If you have a gang tattoo you’ll get fired at the LASD. A real gang, not some phantom gang.”
