Senate advances nominee for seat on Eastern District

Kirk E. Sherriff has led the Fresno and Bakersfield offices of the U.S. attorney’s office since 2015.

The U.S. Senate voted Thursday to shut down debate on the nomination of Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk E. Sherriff for a judicial vacancy on the Eastern District of California.

The vote was 51-42, with three Republicans – Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-SC, Sen. Susan Collins, R-ME, and Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-AK – crossing partisan lines to support him. A final confirmation vote has not been scheduled but is likely to occur next week.
