Tattoo artist Kat Von D did not infringe Miles Davis photo, jury says

“This case should never have been brought. It was an outrageous money grab that the jury saw through immediately,” said Allen B. Grodsky of Grodsky Olecki & Puritsky.

A federal jury in Los Angeles unanimously found celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D did not violate a photographer’s copyright of an image of jazz icon Miles Davis when she used it as a guide to ink a portrait of him on the arm of her friend and shared the results on social media.

The eight-person jury deliberated for under two hours and returned the decision to U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer.
