Newsom sends state attorneys to Oakland to aid in prosecutions of emergency CHP operations
A preliminary annual report shows violent crime in Oakland rose 21%, robbery increased 38%, and vehicle theft increased 45% in 2023, but data from other major cities in the state show crime rates down.
On Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced plans to send state attorneys to Alameda County to assist in the prosecution of numerous “serious and complex crimes”. The move came days after Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta deployed 120 California Highway Patrol officers to the East Bay to help crack down on crime.
“An arrest isn’t enough,” Newsom said in his statement Thursday. “Justice demands that suspects are appropriately prosecuted. ...
