US judge considers special master for women’s prison

The plaintiffs have not sufficiently proven that there was a widespread practice of sexual assault and exploitation at the prison, according to the Justice Department.

OAKLAND — Attorneys for the U.S. Department of Justice urged a federal judge on Tuesday not to grant a preliminary injunction or certify a class of female inmates suing the government for alleged abusive conditions and constitutional violations at a San Francisco Bay Area prison.
