Misconduct charges continue despite judges losing elections

James A. Murphy, who represents both judges, suggested the Commission on Judicial Performance engaged in “election interference” by announcing charges weeks before the primary.

Two judges facing discipline charges will soon be out of office after election results on Tuesday. But the cases against them will go on.

Election night returns showed Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory J. Elvine-Kreis losing to challenger April A. Van Dyke by more than 20%. In Lassen County, Judge Tony R. Mallery did not seek reelection.
