The finalized guidance from the SEC represents a significant weakening of its original proposal yet still faces a legal challenge from a coalition of 10 states.

Ten states issued a legal challenge to new disclosure guidelines from the SEC which impose additional reporting requirements on corporations regarding the material risk they face from climate-related events and their Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

'The Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors,' announced Wednesday, is far weaker than the guidance initially proposed by the SEC, which would have required disclosure of Scope 3 emissions.
