Accept punitive award cut or face retrial, judge says
Kaiser argued that the fired plaintiff jury did not prove the hospital acted with oppression, fraud or malice.

A Los Angeles County judge tentatively denied Kaiser Foundation Hospitals’ motion to vacate a $41.5 million jury verdict for a nurse who claimed she was wrongfully fired for reporting misconduct. But he agreed with the hospital that the $30 million punitive damages award was excessive and said he would retry that portion of the case if the plaintiff does not agree to accept one-third of that amount.
