Judges skeptical of Uber’s equal protection claim against state gig worker law

During Wednesday’s argument, 9th Circuit judges questioned Theane D. Evangelis, who represents Uber, and attorneys for the state and federal government, about whether the state law is “irrational” and driven by animus.

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals en banc panel appeared skeptical Wednesday of an attorney for Uber Technologies Inc.’s argument that the company and other plaintiffs had an equal protection claim against the state over legislation they said targeted their businesses by requiring them to treat workers as full-time employees.
