An Assembly committee advanced a bill that would extend rules allowing remote criminal proceedings over the objections of labor groups and public defenders.
The bill's author, Sen. Tom Umberg, D-Santa Ana, told the members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee on Tuesday that SB 92 merely seeks to extend a type of proceeding that has become routine.
