San Diego diocese says it will file for bankruptcy protection

Monday's expected filing will be the 5th by a California diocese in less than two years.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego will file for Chapter 11 protection on Monday, making it the fifth California diocese to seek bankruptcy protection in less than two years.

Cardinal Robert McElroy, the Bishop of San Diego, announced the decision on Thursday in a letter posted online.
