LAUSD claims insurers shirked duty in sex abuse defense

The lawsuit stems from 61 cases filed by victims of sexual assault at the hands of LAUSD personnel, which had previously been barred by the statute of limitations until AB 218 extended the deadline for filing.

The Los Angeles Unified School District accused five insurance companies of failing to defend and compensate it in dozens of childhood sexual abuse lawsuits filed in the wake of Assembly Bill 218, which extended the statute of limitations for sexual assault cases.
