California ranks among the top 10 states with the highest safety risks for cyclists
The state is taking steps to enhance safety standards, and Caltrans recently announced it will spend approximately $930 million over the next four years to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety throughout the state.

During the pandemic, bicycle riding saw a significant increase worldwide, promoting environmental benefits and healthier lifestyles. This rise in cycling popularity has unfortunately produced an increase in bike-related injuries and fatalities. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports there were 1,105 people killed while riding a bike in 2022, with an estimated 46,195 bicyclists injured.
