Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday an agreement to "speed up prosecutions in Alameda County" between the California Department of Justice and state officials that will enable prosecutors from the California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force to help combat rising violent and drug-related crime rates in the county.
A similar agreement announced in February quickly fell apart amid a dispute with District Attorney Pamela Price.
