Google's monopoly playbook: Court slams exclusive deals, but what's next?

Google's exclusionary distribution agreements have contributed to Google's maintenance of its monopoly power in two relevant markets, general search services and general text advertising, by using exclusive distribution agreements.

The U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. in its Memorandum Opinion found that Google had violated Section 2 of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act by maintaining its monopoly in two product markets in the United States, general search services and general text advertising, by using exclusive distribution agreements. The comprehensive decision by Judge Amit Mehta did not set out the damages to be paid or the remedial steps to be taken. [Page 276.]
