Guns, Contraception, and Standing

This week's show considers guns, religion, contraception, and constitutional standing after three notable rulings issued from the U.S. Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit. Dean Erwin Chemerinsky (UCI Law), M.C. Sungaila (Haynes and Boone), and Professor Leslie Griffin (UNLV Law) offer commentary.

This week's podcast features no shortage of engrossing subject matter, as three recent court filings that pertain to gun rights, religion and contraception, and constitutional standing are discussed.

Brian is joined by Erwin Chemerinsky (Dean, UCI Law) to talk about Texeira v. County of Alameda, a 9th Circuit ruling that considers the Second Amendment rights of would-be gun sellers. Then, M.C. Sungaila (Haynes and Boone) visits to consider the ramifications of Monday's U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Spokeo v. Robins, which refines the contours of Article III standing in ways critical for class action attorneys. Finally, Professor Leslie Griffin (UNLV School of Law) will comment on Zubik v. Burwell, another case that stood to conclude years of wrangling between the government and religious non-profits over the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate, but instead left the question open for further litigation.
