Last July, Kennedy helped steer one of the most impressive IPO deals of 2010 when he represented Goldman Sachs & Co., Morgan Stanley & Co., J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. and Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. as the underwriters of the Tesla Motors Inc. IPO.
Palo Alto-based Tesla's IPO raised $260 million in aggregate gross proceeds. A year later, Kennedy worked on the company's follow-on offering.
Tesla was the first U.S. auto manufacturer to go public since Ford in 1956, and Kennedy called the experience "fantastic," saying he enjoyed working with a company that "is on the cusp of a new and exciting thing," namely Tesla's model S sedan, a car the company bills as what's to be the first all-electric luxury sedan. .
Kennedy was also lead counsel representing the underwriters in Demand Media's $174 million IPO in January.Santa Monica-based Demand Media is an online media company that operates sites such as eHow and Livestrong.com.
