Before she went to law school, Stevens worked in public relations and advertising. She crafted messaging for department stores, hospitals, film studios and airports.
"Being in advertising helped me focus on what is important as a trial lawyer," Stevens said. "So much information is picked up by a jury in the first few seconds. "I've had to try to make people laugh and make them cry. At trial you are presenting a story, and you have to make sure the jury understands the story quickly."
Much of her practice is focused on plaintiffs-side litigation in employment matters and personal injury. One of her most notable personal injury cases involved a helicopter accident. The biggest challenge for the plaintiff was that the crash happened in the Philippines. Stevens successfully blocked the transfer of the case to the Philippines and then negotiated a multi-million-dollar settlement.
Most recently, Stevens was involved in several wage and hour cases.
"These are all too common. It's unfortunate to have to bring these wage and hour cases," Stevens said.
And she has handled several cases involving physicians who may be forced to work where they didn't want to because of non-competition clauses by surrounding doctors.
"We had one doctor who ended up moving from Las Vegas to the Temecula Valley and the compensation was not as expected," Stevens said.
In her spare time, Stevens serves as president-elect of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
