Veterans on the bench column was based on governor's data
My guest column "Veterans, disabled lacking on the bench" (April 14) was written based on data obtained from the governor's office as to applicants applying for Judicial Appointment.

My guest column "Veterans, disabled lacking on the bench" (April 14) was written based on data obtained from the governor's office as to applicants applying for Judicial Appointment. The column also referred to reported published data on serving disabled or veteran justices. The Judicial Council issues a survey to sitting trial and appellate justices. According to this Judicial Council survey published results, no California Justices reported disability or veteran status for 2015. Please find the hyperlinks to be copied into your internet browser below for the complete reports.

I have been advised that there veterans who exist but are not included in that survey. Query as to why that happened? Their dedicated service is exemplary. What is clear is we need meaningful participation of the disabled and veterans on all California Courts. The available reported data establish underrepresentation without any doubt.
