The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a brief supporting the plaintiff in a Northern District lawsuit that accuses Hercules-based Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. of bribing government officials in Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. The SEC brief - filed Friday - supports plaintiff Sanford Wadler, a former general counsel of Bio-Rad who claims the company illegally sacked him after he investigated the alleged corruption and reported it to other company executives. Bio-Rad sought to dismiss the lawsuit, claiming in a motion that Wadler doesn't qualify for whistleblower protection because he did not go to government officials. The SEC disagreed in its brief Friday. San Francisco-based Latham & Watkins LLP partner Linda M. Inscoe represents Bio-Rad. San Francisco-based Kerr & Wagstaffe LLP Michael von Loewenfeldt represents Wadler.
