"This is my passion, I like standing up for the little guy," said Broillet. "I'm just 5'2" tall, always have been [and] I've just always been on the side of the little guy. I like to speak for people in court who have been harmed in one way or another, treated unfairly; whether it's a defective product, whether it's a roadway design condition, whether it's some kind of business fraud and in this case the way Todd McNair was treated by the NCAA."

McNair, a former USC running back coach, sued the National College Athletic Association over statements made in connection with its investigation of USC. "[The NCAA] made a finding of unethical conduct against Todd McNair, a finding which we believe was not at all supported by the facts," he said. On appeal, Broillet successfully opposed the NCAA's demand to have its internal documents sealed. He also successfully opposed the NCAA's anti-SLAPP motion, which the NCAA is appealing. McNair v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, BC462891 (LA Super. Ct., filed June 3, 2011).
