This holiday encore episode will revisit two conversations from previous shows offering authoritative guidance on appellate practice in both state and federal courts.
We'll first hear my conversation with Justice Nora Manella, from Division Four of California's Second Appellate District. She'll opine on lessons learned through her career on Capitol Hill, as the Central District's top prosecutor, and on both the federal and state benches, and will describe the most effective (and some less effective) appellate practices she witnesses in California Courts of Appeal.
Next is my chat with with Mark Haddad, partner with Sidley Austin, on his experiences trying appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Haddad, a former clerk for Justice William Brennan, describes unique strategies and novel approaches he employs when trying matters before the country's court of last resort.
