On August 6, the Los Angeles Paralegal Association?s (LAPA) Pro Bono Fair took place at National University?s West Los Angeles campus. With nearly 100 attendees at the fair, individuals had the opportunity to meet with several pro bono organizations, including Alliance for Children?s Rights, Bet Tzedek Legal Services, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, Inner City Law Center, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and the Public Counsel Law Center. Attendees learned about volunteer positions, paralegal internships, the pro bono organizations? missions and information about the services they offer clients.
The program also stressed the importance of pro bono work as an experience builder. ?Participants also discovered that while assisting an organization with the underserved in a volunteer or intern capacity, one can gain invaluable experience and that pro bono work on one?s resume can distinguish them from other candidates in several ways,? said Bobby T. Rimas, Los Angeles Paralegal Association President.
