If there's news of a celebrity divorce in the headlines, there's a good chance that Wasser's involved to lessen the gossip around it. High-profile clients in recent months have included Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Kate Beckinsale. But other than a catchy headline or two, Wasser said a celebrity divorce typically isn't that different from other separations. They, too, just want to get through it as quickly and painlessly as possible.

"What's not very salacious or interesting is that these people are going through the exact same thing as people that aren't famous," Wasser said. "Most people, whether they're famous or not, would prefer not to have their personal situations flashed all over the news."

Wasser said her firm's practice is settlement-oriented, working to resolve issues that often come up largely from misconceptions about the divorce process.

"There are some very old understandings of the law. I have people come in all the time and say, 'Well, I'm the mom, so I get to keep the house.' Or, 'I'm the mom, he gets the kids every other weekend.' But it's 2017. That's not how it works," Wasser said.

To help work past those misconceptions and make the overall process easier, Wasser launched "It's Over Easy" in January, an online divorce service she said "replaces outdated divorce practices with a seamless divorce solution."

The service provides information and legal recommendations to help couples through the divorce process and offers live chat and mediation, among other support services, should they hit any roadblocks.

"It's something I'm really excited about," Wasser said. "It's less damaging for families and for bank accounts, and it lets people be the masters of their own destiny."

The daughter of prominent family law attorney Dennis Wasser, Wasser said she was named with the initials "L.A.W." in mind. It was something she used to roll her eyes at -- but now as a high-profile family law attorney herself, she's come around to it.

"It could not have been nerdier," Wasser said. "Now I've embraced it. I've got it monogrammed on pillows."
