Keller Rackauckas LLP | Irvine | Practice Type: trials | Specialties: commercial litigation, intellectual property, white collar criminal defense, securities litigation

Among her high-stakes cases, Keller is serving as co-counsel, with attorneys from Keker & Van Nest LLP, in the defense of Standard & Poor's Financial Services LLC in its ongoing battle with the U.S. government. U.S. v. McGraw-Hill Companies Inc., et al, 13-00779 (C.D. Cal., filed Feb. 4, 2013).

At issue are allegations by the U.S. government that the financial services company contributed to the 2008 financial crisis by inflating the value of certain mortgage-backed securities.

With a trial scheduled for September 2015, Keller said, "The time is going to go very quickly. There is a lot of accomplish."

As to the merits of the case, Keller said, "The government blames S&P for not having a crystal ball with which to predict the severity of the housing meltdown, which no one else saw coming either, including the government."

Meanwhile, Keller said that her biggest obstacle so far is the government's unwillingness to grant full discovery.

"We have gotten thousands of pages with a lot of redactions and a huge number of privilege claims," she added.

Also in the pipeline, Keller is representing MGA Entertainment Inc. in its ongoing battle with Mattel Inc.

Having successfully represented MGA in federal court over rights to the popular Bratz dolls, Keller is serving as lead counsel on the remaining trade secrets allegation against Mattel in state court.

Keller said that she is optimistic, adding, "This time we have a pure plaintiff case, and the jury will hear about Mattel's corporate espionage without any diversions."
