Wasser exudes calm and poise.
Maybe that helps to explain why the rich, powerful and famous turn to her during their worst moments.
If a wealthy couple in Hollywood is getting a divorce, chances are one of them will call Wasser. Often, there’s a race to her office.
January is usually the biggest month in Wasser’s line of work, as couples look to kick off the year with a fresh start. Summertime is big for Hollywood’s blockbuster divorces, she said. She speculated the surge in business is driven by the fact that there’s a television hiatus, leaving stars with more time to deal with the complexities of a “conscious uncoupling,” as some A-listers like to call it.
As much as 20 percent of her clients are the type of people whose divorce proceedings you’d get a glimpse into from a supermarket tabloid, such as Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. The vast majority of her clients have some connection to the entertainment industry. Although nowadays, Silicon Valley titans are also seeking out Wasser’s services.
Wasser has recently been expanding her practice to include “It’s Over Easy,” an online divorce service she founded that seeks to streamline a process she believes is too complex.
Wasser said the service has completed its testing phase and has launched exclusively in California, though it’s on track to expand nationwide by January.
“That’s when we’ll go full bore media-wise,” Wasser said. “It’s really exciting.”
