Hospitality real estate, transactions
You may have Kirkbride to thank for your next wild trip to Las Vegas. He represented DubaiWorld in the financing and completion of the $8.5 billion CityCenter joint venture with MGM. It's been described as the largest single-phase construction project in the country, and Kirkbride navigated a complex web of 15 different law firms as well as numerous languages and time zones to make the deal happen.
He also represented Deutsche Bank in the negotiation of the $4 billion Cosmopolitan, a massive mixed-use project in Las Vegas that is set to open later this year. Kirkbride's success comes in part from his philosophy toward hospitality real estate.
"You can't just be a real estate lawyer," he says. "You have to understand the business. In a distressed environment, a hotel can go off the cliff overnight."
Kirkbride plans to be busy during the next year dealing with re-capitalization of existing projects and purchases of distressed real estate.
