Judicial Appointments Secretary
Majors-Lewis was hired three and a half years ago to help Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger diversify the California bench. When the governor leaves office this year one of his signature accomplishments will because of Majors-Lewis' work. The percentage of women and minority jurists has risen under Schwarzenegger - according to statistics from the Judicial Council, minorities make up approximately 24 percent while women comprise 28 percent of the governor's appointments to the bench. Schwarzenegger has appointed more members of the other political party than any governor in modern history and he diversified the professional backgrounds of the appointees to include more private firm lawyers and criminal defenders.
