Patent litigation
A master in the courtroom, Reines scored a major victory last year defending television networks and other defendants against a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Rembrandt Technologies, which conceded non-infringement. Reines will defend the Delaware court's ruling on appeal. He has also won several pro bono victories for military veterans and their surviving spouses.
And he won again this spring when representing CBS's Internet radio services against a holding company that conceded non-infringement after a favorable judicial ruling on patent claim construction in a Florida case.
But Reines is best known for his influence outside of the courtroom. He is renowned for the amicus briefs he files on behalf of technology clients on major intellectual property issues in appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. "My strength is helping to organize groups of companies that are often competitors to work together for a common cause," he says.
He is chairman of the Patent Rules Advisory Committee of the Northern District of California, serves as a member of the Federal Circuit Advisory Council, and is a board member and past president of the Federal Circuit Bar Association.
