Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson

Plaintiffs' mass tort, product liability, personal injury

Four months ago, Robinson came out in front of the national federal litigation over Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles that accelerate when they shouldn't, as he was picked as co-lead liaison counsel for personal injury cases against the Japanese auto maker.

That's hardly his only major auto case. Famed for helping pull in the $128 million Ford Pinto verdict in 1978, Robinson and his firm list 135 verdicts and settlements on their website worth $2 million or more.

Robinson also is co-leading litigation in Los Angeles against Bayer Corp. over its birth-control pill, Yaz. And he could start trial early next year in tobacco litigation, which he revived with a surprising 4-3 win last year at the state Supreme Court.

But right now, with depositions under way, Toyota takes as much as 50 hours a week of Robinson's time.

"Fortunately, my wife is very patient," he says.
