Real estate, transactions

For Weil this year marked the end of a five-year journey to complete the largest privately funded construction project in U.S. history.

Weil served as lead counsel for MGM Mirage on its joint venture with Dubai World to realize CityCenter, a 67-acre sustainable "city within a city" that opened this year in Las Vegas to the tune of $8.5 billion.

The project highlights Weil's ability to problem-solve on a large, complex project that involved many different contracts, land-use challenges and tricky financing.

Like many in his field, Weil anticipates he will be occupied this year with loan workouts and financial restructurings in what he described as a commercial real estate market with challenges deeper and more widespread than any he has seen in his 33 years in real estate law.
