In the midst of the economic downturn, the sale of San Francisco-based Barclays Global Investors to BlackRock in June for $13.5 billion made headlines as one of the biggest deals in money management industry. The legal mastermind behind the closely watched transaction was Barclays’ adviser Ressler, a pro at crafting such industry-shifting deals. She led a team of 45 lawyers over seven months of competitive bidding to cinch the complex transaction. During that time, Ressler also managed to advise San Diego-based Amylin Pharmaceuticals in a dramatic proxy fight with Icahn Group and Eastbourne Capital Management.
