Business litigation
As managing partner of the Los Angeles outpost of one of New Yorks most established law firms, Sacks has made a name for himself as an even-keeled trusted litigator. Last September, Collective Brands Inc., formerly Payless ShoeSource Inc., turned to Sacks after losing badly in a trademark infringement trial. He directed a highly successful post-trial motion strategy that reduced the jury verdict from $305 million to $65.3 million. Now JPMorgan Chase & Co. has turned to him to help it lay ownership claims to more than $14 billion in assets formerly belonging to Washington Mutual Inc. that are being divvied up in bankruptcy court and litigation in Texas.
