To many Orange County lawyers, doing pro bono work means the Public Law Center. To many of those same lawyers, the Public Law Center means Ken Babcock. As executive director, he has grown and professionalized the county's main public interest law office since he arrived eight years ago from Los Angeles counterpart Public Counsel. Since then, he's helped the center expand its activities in immigration, fair housing, impact litigation, human trafficking and the intersection of poverty, law and health. For the first time this July, the group's annual dinner, attracting public interest leaders from throughout Southern California, brought in more than $500,000.
