Like the engineers at his company, he is an innovator. Since taking the reins in 2001, the general counsel has applied his creativity toward developing a variety of tools aimed at making legal services more efficient. His automated systems, which guide transactions ranging from patent applications to deal approvals, save his lawyers time. His internal wiki enables coordination and knowledge-sharing among the department's 200 members, who are strewn from Tokyo to Johannesburg. Meanwhile, he found time to spearhead lawyer fundraising efforts for presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton and fly to Washington, D.C. to champion yet unsuccessful changes to the Patent Reform Bill.
