San Francisco's city attorney has been described as the calm, deliberative marriage-equality advocate - with a bite. The family man, who lives in San Francisco's Potrero Hill with his wife and 6-year-old son, recently showed his teeth by filing a lawsuit challenging marriage laws that exclude gay couples that led to the state Supreme Court's decision to legalize gay marriage. He also has supported the city in other controversial efforts, such as the universal health care program, Healthy San Francisco. Out of all his important cases, he has said the one he is most proud of is securing $1 million in a settlement to fund the renovation of the Boys & Girls Club in Bayview-Hunters Point.
