The architect of Yahoo's defense against Microsoft had a busy year, to say the least. In addition to keeping the company in the hands of Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang and Co., King also rules Skadden's Silicon Valley and San Francisco operations. Regarded as one of the top mergers and acquisitions practitioners in the state, he rarely lets his administrative duties interfere with his deal-making activity. While fending off Microsoft, he helped Yahoo expand, by engineering the $160 million acquisition of Internet software designer Maven.
