The head of the firm's health care litigation practice came off a busy 2007 schedule of defending health plans in controversial rescission cases that led to new law favoring his clients. This year, he dove into an even more tumultuous litigation load. Representing several companies, including Blue Shield of California, one of the state's largest nonprofit health plans, he is fighting myriad challenges to the structure of the HMO system, dealing with day-to-day regulatory issues between insurers and state agencies, as well as arguing high-impact jury trials. Last year, he won a case featured prominently in Michael Moore's "Sicko," which found that health plans are not responsible for decisions made by contracting providers.
