As a patent prosecutor and portfolio manager who represents a slew of major corporations, Itri joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius last August from McDermott Will & Emery, bringing a huge client base to a firm he said offers prime opportunities to expand his practice.
Morgan Lewis’ prominent labor and employment practice includes Fortune 500 clients that may have intellectual property needs too, he said.
“I was very pleased when I saw the client list and who they do represent and what they’re doing for them,” Itri said. “There’s a lot of opportunity for me to expand the relationship.”
Itri’s biggest clients include Apple Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp., Broadcom Inc., Google LLC. He advises Apple on patent prosecutions related to a huge range of technology essential to its most popular products, including mechanical features of the iPhone, iPad and iWatch, as well as Apple Pay and related financial transactions.
He helps Lockheed Martin, a client for 17 years, on patent prosecution and transactions matters for areas such as satellite technologies, rocket designs and satellite solar array systems, and he helps Google with patent prosecution issues related to browsers, operating systems and web operations.
Itri also advises Western Digital Corp., a computer data storage company with an international reach, and he helps Broadcom on patent prosecution matters for enterprise switch networks, wireless technologies, audio/video processing and automotive networking.
He brought the clients to Morgan Lewis when he joined last year as leader of the firm’s Orange County intellectual property practice, beginning “a year of change” that he described as both exciting and stressful.
“I didn’t have to give up any clients. There were no conflicts, so that worked out very well,” Itri said. He also brought his team with him.
“The whole team basically that I’ve worked with is now at Morgan Lewis, so I haven’t had to reach beyond them,” Itri said. That will happen more as he gets settled and his practice expands, he said.
Before earning his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Itri was an electrical engineer.
