Goodwin Procter LLP

Mitzi Chang

Chang is one of the go-to lawyers for blockchain and cryptocurrency companies as well as their potential investors. As co-chair of the digital currency and blockchain technology practice at Goodwin Procter LLP, she is often sought for her guidance on key regulatory and transactional issues.

Before joining Goodwin Procter, she was in-house counsel for CBS Interactive Inc., a role she says helped her gain insight on how to add value to her technology clients.

Phunware Inc., an enterprise cloud platform, relied on her counsel in the launch of a $100 million offering by its subsidiary PhunCoin.

One her favorite aspects of her job is assisting clients with the challenges they are facing.

“A lot of times [clients are] calling you because they really need your help,” she said. “They don’t know where to go, or maybe they have an idea, but it’s enough where it’s a big issue where they want your advice.”

“So for me, it’s really that interaction that I’ve always enjoyed,” she added.

Chang advised capital investing group RPM Ventures Inc. in a $65 million Series B financing of Figure Technologies, a financial technology company specializing in home equity.

When she’s not dissecting the details of a client matter, Chang serves on Goodwin Procter’s committee on racial and ethnic diversity, a group within the firm that aims to foster a positive environment for attorneys of color and develop an inclusive process for hiring and promoting them as well.

Chang also serves on Goodwin’s hiring committee.

“When I was a young attorney, it was hard for me to find people who were just like me 20 years ahead of me,” Chang said. “It’s gotten so much better since when I was a young attorney. But I think for the industry, it’s important to really try and be inclusive and to realize that we are all a community.”
